Tinkering Tinkerer: David Cole

David loves anything that comes in a fitted, wooden box. He collects machines to inspire his artwork and feed his curiosity about mechanisms and analog technologies. David's Website

The work he produces in his Oakland shop ranges in scale from fine jewelry to architectural details and public art. Although many of the processes he employs are ancient techniques of handcrafting metal, he also embraces the precision and aesthetics of machine tools and the way they allow him to realize his more complicated visions. In addition to his studio practice, David also teaches at the California College of the Arts.
