Baltimore-based musician and composer Dan Deacon hooks listeners with strong melodic lines immersed in a sea of rhythmic structures, distorted sound samples, and synthesized and acoustic textures. His Resonance performance at the Exploratorium featured the Disklavier, an electronic version of the player-piano. Deacon is influenced by the work of composer Conlon Nancarrow, who pioneered the use of player-pianos to explore music unplayable by human hands.
