Things that are clear may be tough to see, but they aren't necessarily invisible. Clear things are visible because they reflect some of the light that shines on them and bend or refract the light that shines through them. However, you can make a clear object disappear by surrounding it with something that has a similar index of refraction—something that bends light the same way the object does.
