The formidable bassist, bandleader, composer, curator, and producer Lisa Mezzacappa presents ORGANELLE, an exploration of time from the nano to the cosmic scale performed by percussion quartet. Its rhythms, musical relationships, melodies, and structures each connect to a theory of cell biology, astrophysics, paleontology, zoology, or neuroscience, evoking otherwise-imperceptible phenomena through sound.
In the opening piece, Mezzacappa improvised on bass to Wayne Grim’s live “sonification." Grim created sonic software using a year’s worth of tide, temperature, turbidity, and other data collected from the Bay by Exploratorium scientists.
