- Who Counts is an exhibit that is a history exhibit essentially and it's about the US Census. It's a timeline that looks at how the Census has been categorizing race and ethnicity every decade since 1790. We have all different contradictory ideas about race, including the fact that race is not biologically real. But the reality is, we have these forms that ask us, "What is our race?"

- On the Census I choose other.

- White, Hispanic.

- On the Census, I would pick Asian, Indian.

- There's just something troubling about checking off a box and saying, "I'm that box."

- People's individual stories like really revealed a whole lot about how confusing race and ethnicity are. So that is how the video came about. This is not the kind of exhibit I typically do. This is not a physics exhibit. The hands on element of it is pretty limited. You can open a panel and you can pick up a earphone. What I do think is working for it, is that it's in a social space. So people are looking at it together and I think that makes it more impactful. What I hope people get is as a sense of what it means when people talk about race being a social construct.

- My race is the most salient feature of my identity. It's a very key part of my first impression and I'm very aware of that.

- The Census gives me no choice but to choose white. The white category is a little large. My family is Palestinian.

- My family of origin is the story of my identity. And, race is something that gets imposed upon that.

- The Census is a really interesting lens to look at race in America and representation. And the Census should be a tool to protect people's civil rights.
