Go DJ! DJ’ing Workshop

With Hip Hop for Change

Sunday, August 18, 2019 • 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.

Osher Gallery 1

Included with museum admission and free for Daytime members.

Note: The workshop is free with museum admission but has limited capacity. Please sign up in advance by emailing cinemaarts@exploratorium.edu.

Try to get the party started—and keep it going in this fun and interactive workshop. Guest DJs from Hip Hop for Change will share how hip-hop started by looping and mixing break beats back in New York during the early ’70s and how that DJ culture has evolved. Then learn some DJ’ing techniques and take a spin at blending, cutting, and scratching records on turntables.

Hip Hop for Change is an Oakland-based nonprofit that uses grassroots based activism to educate people about socioeconomic injustices and advocate solutions through hip-hop culture. They also raise funds for local nonprofits that enrich marginalized and historically oppressed communities.
