In 1960, the laser was known as “a solution looking for a problem.” Dubbed “music for your eyes,” laser shows were one example of this solution, growing out of early experiments in light shows and subsequently becoming hugely popular beginning in the 1970s.
In this entertaining program, Exploratorium scientist Ron Hipschman merges a cinematic laser show with the science behind their development. Himself a longtime laser show projectionist, Ron will speak to the science and technology that led to the development of the form, offer a demonstration of laser projection, and conclude with a short program of light show-related films.
