Sunday, June 30, 2013 | Beginning at noon
Exploratorium, Pier 15
Included with museum admission.
Note: Capacity is extremely limited for tours of the Bell M. Shimada. Museum admission does not guarantee a tour spot; 260 tour slots will be made available to visitors on a first-come, first-served basis.
Meet the scientists and crew of the Bell M. Shimada when this National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries Research Vessel returns to Pier 15. Get a firsthand account of life on a state-of-the-art research vessel and visit the Bay Observatory Gallery to explore the exciting history of sunken ships beneath the now-buried SF waterfront. You'll also learn about the different species inhabiting the pilings beneath the pier as well as about the climate and ocean science behind many of our new exhibits, including the Wired Pier project.
