In collaboration with the Exploratorium, Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture, and ODC Dance Jam, New York–based choreographer Catherine Galasso creates RECESS, a performance intervention in response to Lawrence Weiner’s installation OUT OF SIGHT. Featuring dancers from ODC’s teen company, the Dance Jam, RECESS will contrast hopscotch-inspired dance breaks with slow-motion tableaux vivant (French for “living picture”) to inspire feelings of resilience and determination.

RECESS includes choreographic contributions from Jordan D. Lloyd, Dexandro Montalvo, Kimi Okada, and Karla Quintero.

This performance celebrates the opening of artist Lawrence Weiner’s playful, hopscotch-like mural OUT OF SIGHT on the Exploratorium’s Plaza. OUT OF SIGHT is a project of See The Vision, Grab The Vision, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to producing innovative public art and programming designed to engage, inspire, and empower youth and participants of all ages.

ODC is a ground-breaking contemporary arts institution: a world-class dance company (ODC/Dance), a theater with year-round presenting and mentorship programs (ODC Theater), a training school for dancers and movers of all levels (ODC School), and a fee-free, educational Healthy Dancers’ Clinic.
