Bechtel Gallery 3

Free for Donors and Daytime members and for After Dark members on Thursday nights.

Have you ever wondered how an autonomously driven vehicle can see what’s around it? This immersive digital exhibit shows how a technology called sensor fusion brings together information from many sensors to create a cohesive real-time view.

The Sensor Fusion exhibit visualizes data from three sources—cameras, radar, and lidar. Lidar can be used to build 3D images by sending out pulses of light and measuring how they bounce back. See how you look through lidar, and learn how this data is combined with radar and camera inputs to understand where objects are and how they move.

The Sensor Fusion exhibit was developed by Waymo in collaboration with the Exploratorium.
