¡Conoce el maravilloso mundo de las plantas! Desde el maíz hasta las caléndulas o cempasúchitl, las plantas le dan forma a nuestras culturas y nuestro planeta. Considera las plantas desde muchas perspectivas: alimentos, ciencia, jardinería y más. Toca las plantas, tritúralas y huélelas, estúdialas bajo el microscopio y conoce a las personas que las cuidan.

¡Plantásticas! fue creada en colaboración con miembros de las comunidades latinx e indígena. Relájate en patios de plantas inmersivos de la artista de Los Ángeles Andi Xoch (#LatinxWithPlants), saborea las tradiciones culinarias indígenas con Vincent Medina y Louis Trevino de Cafe Ohlone y más. Enter a whimsical world of flowers brought to life through the cinematic lens. In between screenings, get hands on with plants by creating a plant print using screen-printing techniques.

Andi Xoch, Latinx with Plants

Con sede en Boyle Heights, Los Ángeles, la artista Andi Xoch fundó Latinx with Plants para crear hermosos entornos que ayudan a las personas de la comunidad latina a apreciar y conectarse con las plantas.

Vincent Medina y Louis Trevino, líderes culturales de los pueblos originarios ohlone

Mientras los habitantes de los pueblos originarios ohlone se centraban en mantener su cultura tradicional, Vincent Medina y Louis Trevino han pasado años trabajando para adquirir fluidez en los idiomas y las antiguas tradiciones culinarias de su gente. Son cofundadores de Cafe Ohlone en Berkeley.

Vincent y Louis seleccionaron el contenido de las exhibiciones de Recuerdos de aromas y Diapositivas de historias, y aparecen en una serie de cuatro videos que exploran el papel integral de las plantas en las tradiciones culturales ohlone.

Doña Maria Ávila Vera, abuela maya yucateca

Doña María Ávila Vera, una abuela maya y conocedora de plantas, es maestra de las tradiciones de sus ancestros. Utiliza su experiencia de vida y su lengua materna, el maya yucateco, para transmitir su conocimiento tradicional. Pasa su tiempo en Petaluma, California y Mérida, Yucatán.

Para ¡Plantásticas!, Doña María contribuyó su conocimiento en talleres comunitarios sobre contenido de exhibición, experiencia y diseño, y ha presentado en varios programas públicos sobre el maíz y las comidas tradicionales mayas.
