Tinkering Tinkerer: Aiko Cuneo

Aiko Cuneo is an artist and arts educator. For over thirty years she worked as an artist in residence in San Francisco public schools. She teaches art workshops in museums and arts organizations all over the Bay Area, including the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, Ruth’s Table at Bethany Center, and SCRAP. Aiko wants her students “to be inspired by the challenge of repurposing and reusing materials in new ways.”
Aiko is the daughter of Artist Ruth Asawa. After graduating in 1972 from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, she assisted Asawa on her public commissions. We hosted a Tinkering Social Club: Milk Cartons Re(imagined), highlighting Aiko’s work, turning a common household object (milk cartons) into beautiful constructions and imaginative sculptures.
