A voyaging canoe isn't just a boat. From bow to stern, a canoe is a reflection of its creators, a carrier of tradition, and an embodiment of cultural values and spirit. Ancient canoes carved from giant koa trees were spaceships of sorts, carrying their living cargo to unknown new homes. Modern canoes make use of modern materials but retain the ancient forms. Everything on board, every knot and notch, is a careful product of communal effort.
